BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Glynn County commissioners got back to work this week without one of their own.
Commissioner Tom Sublett was found dead last week floating in the water near a marina in St. Simons Island.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says it's still working to figure out what happened to him, and Sublett's fellow commissioners are hoping more reward money will help.
In the meantime Tuesday, they were faced with the reality of moving forward without him.
"It was different. We all had the feel of sadness," county Commissioner Mary Hunt said after a special workshop meeting. "But we got through it because you have -- we have to get through it, especially with county business."
Sublett was found floating in the river with his hands tied with plastic zip ties. His wife made a frantic call to 911 that night, not knowing she was already a widow.
"He doesn't drink, you know, he's not an alcoholic," Carol Sublett said. "He doesn't run around. He's a county commissioner and he's not home. And I don't know what to do. I cant get him on his cell phone."
An autopsy found a gunshot wound to Sublett's head. GBI still has not determined a manner of death.
Law enforcement has been passing out these fliers in the area trying to gather even more information about Sublett's death. Right now, the reward for information leading to an arrest is $25,000 and could soon be even more.
At the commission's next regular meeting on Thursday, the group is planning to discuss additional reward money, hoping that will lead to answers.
"I think we need to show that we are supporting the investigation, and we want it resolved," Commissioner Clyde Taylor said. "Tom was a valued member of the commission and certainly of the community."
Divers have returned to the Frederica River, searching for evidence. The underwater search resumed Monday after a break for the weekend.
Officials say the Georgia Department of Natural Resources was using sonar to search for evidence, and divers worked around a public fishing dock and pier near the spot where a friend found Sublet's car.
Anyone who has information that may be related to Sublett's death is asked to call the Silent Witness line at 912-264-1333 or the Glynn County police tip line at 912-554-7847.
