JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – At least 26 people are dead after a string of tornadoes rolled through the Southeast over the weekend and into Monday.
The American Red Cross is helping people in several of these states by providing shelters, food, clothing and more.
Even though we're hundreds of miles away from the areas hit, we can still help the many towns who are having to go through the process of re-building.
Monday night a tornado went through Tupelo, Mississippi, leaving thousands still without power.
Also without power and recovering from the deadly weather are many people in the states of Alabama and Kentucky, who didn't report tornadoes, but were hit hard by storms.
Before the storms made it to the South, they hit Oklahoma and Arkansas.
The American Red Cross is helping hundreds of people by providing shelter and distributing food.
They are also providing health and mental services to those affected.
Several units of blood as well as plasma were also provided to hospitals to help those who were injured.
Those who would like to help people affected by disasters like tornadoes, floods and other crises can make a donation to American Red Cross Disaster Relief.
People can donate by visiting www.redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
These donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters big and small.
You can also donate blood or your time as a volunteer with the Red Cross.
Channel 4 is hosting a phone bank with the Red Cross on Wednesday to help raise money for the victims of the tornadoes. The phones will be open from 5-7 p.m.
