According to deputies, Dandurand was found in his cell not breathing on Friday just before 6 p.m. They found him on his knees and with a bed sheet wrapped around his neck.

Deputies said they immediately began trying to resuscitate Dandurand and called Fire Rescue, who transported him to Flagler Hospital for further treatment.

Dandurand had been in custody since June. He was arrested on charges of felony fleeing, attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and aggravated stalking.

Deputies began searching for Dandurand when they learned he may have been in possession of a firearm and had threatened to kill an ex-girlfriend, her current boyfriend and himself. He attempted to flee police when they attempted to pull him over in a traffic stop, but eventually ran into a ditch.

Police said they found an assault rifle when they arrested him.

Detectives with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate the events surrounding Dandurand's death.
