LAKE CITY, Fla. – A 32-year-old serving a 10-year sentence for home invasion and armed robbery was fatally assaulted on July 4 at Columbia Correctional Institute, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.
The DOC said Dennis Alvarado died after he was apparently assault by another inmate. The case was under investigation and no details were released about who assaulted Alvarado and if any charges were filed.

This is the same prison where Corrections Officer Ruben Thomas was killed two years ago, two other corrections officers were assaulted by an inmate in March, and later that month two inmates shot themselves with smuggled weapons in what investigator said was a plot to sue DOC.
