DANIA BEACH, Fla. - Fifteen years after a 71-year-old grandmother was strangled in her South Florida apartment, the Broward County Sheriff's Office has a suspect.
Thanks to an upgrade to a massive database of crime fingerprints, the agency announced Thursday that they've identified convicted felon Bennie Hall as the suspect in Olga Parlante's death.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports 44-year-old Hall will be charged with first-degree murder. He's currently serving an unrelated prison sentence in Martin County.
She was beaten, strangled with a blouse and dragged back into her home when she tried to crawl away.
Detective Frank Ilarraza recently asked the Sheriff's crime lab to reevaluate evidence collected in 1997. In April, he was notified that Hall's palm prints were a match. Ilarraza interviewed Hall, who denies involvement.
