JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Ford Expedition towing a trailer flipped onto the righthand shoulder of northbound Interstate 295 near Old St. Augustine Road on Wednesday, killing one man and sending three others to the hospital.
The Florida Highway Patrol told Channel 4 Wednesday night the trailer being towed by the SUV contained ladders and carpentry equipment. FHP said when the SUV went off the road it hit a light pole, then flipped.
FHP officials said they don't know what caused the accident, which involved only one vehicle and temporarily shut down I-295 to allow the TraumaOne helicopter to land on the interstate.
TraumaOne approaches as it prepares to land on Interstate 295, responding to a wreck with three reported injuries and at least one fatality.
The driver who died was identified as Allan Casana, 37, of Jacksonville.
The two passengers taken to UF Health in critical condition were identified as Freddie Lazo and Jose Hernandez.
A third passenger, Jose Hernandez Garcia, 22, was transported to Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries.
The FHP report said all the men were wearing seatbelts.
