The shooting was reported about 8:45 p.m. Sept. 15, JSO said.

Officers who responded found Gilpin in the driveway of a home on Skycrest Drive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Allgood and several witnesses, including Allgood’s estranged wife, who lives at the house, were also at the scene, police said.

Detectives said their investigation revealed Carl Allgood came to the residence uninvited earlier in the afternoon and started an argument with his estranged wife while she had friends over.

He was asked to leave by those at the residence, including Gilpin, the only male friend at the house.

Carl Allgood and Gilpin got into an argument, and Allgood made it known to everyone present that he carried a gun, police said.

He eventually left the residence, but continued to text his estranged wife over the course of the next few hours until he showed back up at the home around 8:30 p.m. and knocked on the door, police said.

Gilpin answered the door and told Allgood his wife was not at the residence. As the two talked, the wife pulled into the home.

As Allgood and his wife spoke, Gilpin and Allgood became involved in a verbal dispute as well.

At some point, a physical altercation began and Allgood pulled a firearm from his waistline area and shot Gilpin once, police said.

Witnesses told police that Allgood then stood over Gilpin and shot him three more times, including once in the head.
