The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that shots fired at three vehicles in separate incidents on May 14 were from a pellet gun.

The driver of the Aveo, a 27-year-old man from St. Augustine, ran his vehicle off the road and onto the shoulder to avoid the gunfire. His vehicle struck a light pole and flipped several times. He had three passengers with him, a 22-year-old man, a 27-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man.

The woman in the car called 911 to report the crash.

"We have an emergency," she told the operator. "We're off of the -- we don't even know where we are -- somebody shot at our car! Is everyone fine? Our car is totaled.

An officer saw the crash and quickly responded to the scene.

Troopers said the pellets never penetrated the windows of the victim's car and no pellets were found.

Earlier that night, a Chevrolet Trailblazer and a Toyota Sienna were shot at in the area of I-295, near Gate Parkway, the FHP said.

Officials told News4Jax the shots may have been fired from the same vehicle in all three incidents.
