JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A man called a WJXT reporter, saying he is with Publishers Clearing House and that the reporter just won millions of dollars.
Scott Johnson received the call on his way to a story Monday evening. The caller told Johnson he would need to wire $1,500 to cover the taxes on his winnings.
"That's a common one they use because it's been around so long. Way before lotto," said Channel 4 Crime Analyst Ken Jefferson.
Johnson asked the caller to speak with a supervisor or receive a mailing address, but it went nowhere.
"I'm a TV reporter, sir, and we're recording a TV story which will be going on television," said Johnson.
"I don't care if you're a TV reporter. I don't care if you're a TV reporter. I'm a secretary here. I'm bigger than you. My job's bigger than your job, OK. I'm a secretary. Alright?" said the caller.
"I'm just asking for some contact information for your company," said Johnson.
"Come on, man. Stop wasting my time. Stop wasting my time, OK? Get off the phone and stop wasting my time. I don't have time to be wasting here," said the caller.
