Pick-up hit boy in North Shore neighborhood, police say

Lorenzo Thompkins, 5, was hit by a truck riding a scooter

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 5-year-old boy on a scooter was hit by a pick-up truck Tuesday night in the North Shore neighborhood, his mother told News4Jax.

It happened just after 6 p.m. at West 63rd Street and Elwood Avenue. Police said Lorenzo Thompkins was riding a push scooter and "jumped in front of (the truck)."

He suffered a broken femur, a gash on his forehead, and cuts and bruises on his legs, arms and face.

His mother said Wednesday that he is still recovering in the hospital.

She said he was at the intersection with several other children when he was hit. Police said no one witnessed the crash and investigators were unable to determine who was at fault.
