JFRD District Chief John Broxson said one dog died in the fire, but two dogs were rescued.

The resident was not home at the time of the fire, and no other injuries were reported, Broxson said.

Just hours later, firefighters were called just before 10 p.m. to a second fire, at an office building on Oak Street.

Broxson said crews were able to extinguish the flames in 10 minutes, but one cat died in the fire. No other injuries were reported, and no surrounding structures were damaged.

Two floors of the building were heavily damaged in the fire, Broxson said, but there is not yet an estimate on the extent of the damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the fire marshal's office was called to investigate.

It's not known whether the two fires are connected, according to Broxson.
