Crews battle 'suspicious' fire at abandoned house off Beach Boulevard

Firefighters say home has been targeted before

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Crews were called back out to battle a "suspicious" fire at an old house on an abandoned lot Thursday morning, Jacksonville Fire Rescue said.

They say the fire rekindled around 1 a.m.

Wednesday night, three dozen firefighters responded just before 6 p.m. to the house off Beach Boulevard near Southside Boulevard, where heavy smoke was showing.

The fire became so intense, firefighters said, they had to pull crews out of the home for a bit. They were able to get the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

No injuries were reported.

According to firefighters at the scene, the home has been targeted. Firefighters said they don't believe the fire was caused by dry weather but may have been started by people in the area.

The state fire marshal's office is investigating.
