FHP: Woman killed in hit-and-run on I-95

Troopers have located driver and vehicle involved in crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash Monday evening on Interstate 95 at Forsyth Street, the Florida Highway Patrol said. 

Deborah Lee Tompkins, 59, was attempting to cross the road when a 2013 Toyota Corolla hit her. According to the crash report, the woman driving the Toyota, 20-year-old Courtney Lynn Richmond, left the scene and continued driving to her home where she was later found after a witness got her tag number and reported it to troopers, who tracked her down.

She is now cooperating with the investigation, troopers said.

The crash was reported just before 7 p.m. and blocked two northbound lanes of I-95 and the exit to Forsyth Street during the investigation. 

Charges are pending in the crash.
