Hundreds attend Flowering Tree Sale

Greenscape of Jacksonville hosts 27th annual Flowering Tree Sale

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hundreds waited in line early Saturday morning to get discounted plants and trees at the 27th annual Flowering Tree Sale in Jacksonville.

Greenscape of Jacksonville celebrated 27 years of providing quality plant material to the people of Jacksonville by holding their annual event Saturday morning at Metro Square Office Park off Philips Highway.

This annual event presented by JAXPORT provides deeply discounted trees to the public and serves as a fundraiser for Greenscape of Jacksonville, the local non-profit tree planting volunteer organization.

The group encouraged the community to get there early Saturday morning due to trees selling out quickly in past years -- and the people of Jacksonville did in fact show up early.

"This morning at seven o'clock we had 100 or so people waiting in line to get in so its been steady all day," Anna Dooley said.

Anna Dooley with Greenscape of Jacksonville said it was gratifying seeing the large number of people who turned out for Saturday's event -- and that is has such a great impact on the Jacksonville community.

"Improving our tree canopy is going to be improving everyone's quality of life," Dolley said. Trees do so much for us. They purify the air, they help the storm water run off, they provide habitat, they lower your energy bills, increase your real estate values. Their the lungs of our city.

Phil Croke recently moved to Jacksonville and attended the event for the discounts and also to see what plants are in Jacksonville.

"I think this is great," Croke said. The proceeds are going to help beautify Jacksonville and the organization that runs it is very well organized and this has been going on for many years from what I understand and it's a great event."

With all plants and trees between $10 and $15, Linda Naguit has been attending for years.

"I always try to remember that its in February so I try not to miss it."
