The man's friends tried to take him to the hospital, but they stopped at the San Juan Corner Store at Jammes Road and Cassat Avenue to call for help.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue responded and took the victim to UF Health, where he was pronounced dead, said JSO Sgt. Steve Rudlaff.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was described by police as a black man in his early 20s.

Earlier, Rudlaff said, when the victim's friends were leaving the apartment complex to get help, they were involved in a crash with a dark green Toyota 4Runner with two black males inside.

Police said they are looking for the two men, who are believed to be armed, as well as the damaged 4Runner. The two men are persons of interest in the case, according Rudlaff.

The friends who were transporting the victim are cooperating with police, Rudlaff said.

The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.
