FDOT to replace box culvert on Main Street over Hogans Creek

Detour remains in effect

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Main Street was closed May 27 after inspectors observed that the box culvert over Hogans Creek near Orange Street needed to be replaced, the Florida Department of Transportation said.

FDOT engineers will work on a temporary plan to restore limited traffic on Main Street within the next few weeks, which will include opening one northbound lane, one southbound lane and one sidewalk.

Engineers will also developing a permanent culvert replacement project, which will try to preserve the historic elements of the structure and reopen all lanes, according to FDOT.

Until those plans are developed, a detour will remain in place, FDOT said. Message boards will be used on Pearl Street to direct southbound Main Street traffic to Forsyth Street, then east to Main Street. Eastbound traffic will be directed to Union Street.
