JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man who held up a McDonald’s at gunpoint in 2014, forcing the manager to unlock a safe, has been convicted.

Robert Earl Hayes, 48, was found guilty Wednesday on three counts of armed robbery and one count of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, according to the State Attorney's Office.

Hayes faces life in prison. His sentencing is set for the week of Oct. 17.

In September 2014, he and another person entered the chain restaurant through a drive-thru window armed with guns. They held the manager of the Baymeadows Road location at gunpoint and made her unlock the safe.

Hayes and the other suspect stole money and two victims’ cellphones, then took off. Officers found Hayes a short time later in possession of the phones and the cash, according to prosecutors.
