Mayor on Art Walk shooting: 'I am incredibly frustrated'

JSO plans to increase security at next month's event downtown

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mayor Lenny Curry spoke out Monday about last week's double shooting during the first Art Walk of the year in downtown Jacksonville.

Two teenagers were shot in an alley on North Laura Street, a few blocks from Hemming Park where hundreds were gathered for the monthly event, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Mike Williams said the two injured teens are not cooperating with police, adding that they and the shooters possibly knew each other.

Curry explained what he wants to see happen going forward.

"Anytime there is violence perpetrated against individuals in the city, or families, I am incredibly frustrated. I am tired of it," Curry said. "Which is why, again, I'm going to continue to provide the financial resources that law enforcement needs to make the city safe."

Organizers of the Art Walk said they will be back the first Wednesday of February. The Sheriff's Office said there will be more security.
