Ministers plan rally over judge accused of sexist, racist remarks

Ministers want investigation into Judge Mark Hulsey fast-tracked

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A group of ministers demanding the resignation of a Jacksonville judge for alleged racist and sexist remarks have threatened a rally at the courthouse if they don't get the answers they want from the mayor and the chief judge.

Judge Mark Hulsey came under fire this month by the Judicial Qualifications Commission, which found probable cause that Hulsey made the inappropriate remarks to his staff.

Hulsey was formally charged by the commission for misconduct. He denies the claim.

A group of ministers who have brought the issue to the forefront in the past said they plan to protest at the courthouse if Hulsey does not resign.

They said they are meeting with the chief judge and Mayor Lenny Curry about Hulsey, but they will rally on Aug. 18 if they don't get answers.

They are also going to ask the state for an expedited investigation, but they said they realize that it might not happen before the election next month.

Hulsey still has a few days to respond to the charges.

The commission will then hold a hearing in Jacksonville and could make a recommendation to the State Supreme court about any action that might be taken against him.
