Police believe man hit on Mathews Bridge ramp fell to his death

Jacksonville homicide detectves investigating death on Victoria Street

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says a man was struck by a vehicle, while walking on the Mathews Bridge. 

On Sunday, August 28th, at 8:44 a.m., 29-year-old Ricky Donald Dailey was walking eastbound on the Mathews Bridge when an unknown vehicle struck the victim from behind. The victim was thrown over the railing of the bridge and fell about 15-20 feet to the embankment below.  It was determined the victim sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.  A possible driver and vehicle have been identified.

Daily was found Sunday morning on Victoria Street, about three blocks north of EverBank Field, where he fell to his death from the exit ramp of the Mathews Bridge.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Lt. Travis Cox said they were notified at 8:45 a.m. by a motorist who saw the body on a grassy embankment by a bridge support.

Police asked any motorists who might have seen something unusual on the ramp or the bridge early Sunday morning to call police at 904-630-0500.

This is an on-going investigation.
