The victims were in a car in front of a house where a sleepover was occurring when they were shot. Both were hit multiple times and taken to UF Health Jacksonville with injuries they are expected to survive.

Officer Melissa Bujeda said the neighborhood needs to be on alert.

“They need to be concerned. There are people in this neighborhood, and people in this area, that know what happened. And somebody needs to step up. Someone’s going to get shot,” Bujeda said. “Someone’s going to get killed, and it needs to stop.”

Neighbors said they heard 20-30 shots.

Neighbors told News4Jax that West Durkee Drive was known as a prestigious spot in the community.

For Damian Stewart, waking up to the gunfire was shocking.

“I’m very surprised because this is a very family-oriented neighborhood,” Stewart said.
Other neighbors said they’re sick of the violence in the area.

News4Jax spoke with a woman who has lived West Durkee Drive for more than 50 years. She said the younger generation has come in and practically destroyed the neighborhood with unnecessary violence.

“When you have (a) beef with somebody, to go back and try to kill them, harm them, and spend the rest of your life in jail on another human being, is just not acceptable,” said a woman, who wished to remain anonymous.

News4Jax reporter Allyson Henning saw at least six bullet holes in the body of the car and shattered windows.

Police said rifle and handgun shell casings were found at the scene. No suspects have been identified.

Police ask anyone who has information about the shooting to call JSO at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
