Man shot in car on Philips Highway at Baymeadows

Man recovering after being shot in stomach

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 21-year-old man was found shot in his car Friday night in the intersection of Philips Highway and Baymeadows Road.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the man was hit in the stomach about 10:45 p.m. when someone fired 23 shots into his car while he was driving on Philips between J. Turner Butler Boulevard and Baymeadows. 

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department took the victim to Memorial Hospital a with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police have not released the man's name.

According to the police report, shell casings were found all along the road. Bullet holes could be seen all over the sedan. The passenger's side window, the rear passenger's side window and the rear windshield were shattered from the hail of gunfire.
