Woman wanted in theft of more than $3K worth of eyeglasses, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are looking for a woman who is seen in surveillance video stealing pairs of prescription eyeglass frames Monday from an optometrist's office in Deerwood Center on Jacksonville's Southside, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office incident report. 

Employees at Bowden Eye and Associates on Boneval Road called police after noticing that several pairs of eyeglasses were missing from the display shelves.

"When our optician came back from lunch, we had been lifted," said Jana Hartung, the optical director at Bowden Eye and Associates. 

Investigators said they looked at the office's surveillance video, which showed a woman trying on eyeglasses at several displays in the office just before 1 p.m. Monday and then putting the glasses in her shirt pocket.

The woman took seven pairs of eyeglasses worth $3,341, the incident report said.
