Man dead, woman in surgery after shooting, says police

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says two people were shot Friday night in an incident on the Northside, and one of them has died.

The incident happened Friday night near 3700 Owen Avenue near Moncrief Road.

Officers told Channel 4 that a man and a woman were in a car when they were shot by a gunman, who they believe was driving a white or silver Impala-type sedan.

Authorities are not sure of any other details surrounding the shooting incident itself, but said the man, identified by police as 36-year-old Alford Carl Tillmon II, died as a result of the shooting.

Police said the woman, 23-year-old Nakia L. Murray, was taken into surgery Friday night.

A passerby heard someone calling for help, and that person called police.
