JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In about a week and a half, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will hold another gun buyback event aimed at reducing the number of guns in the community.
At the last event in October, nearly 700 guns were brought in. They were then sent off to be melted down.
The next event will be held Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Evangel Temple Assembly of God on Ramona Boulevard.
People will get $50 cash for each gun handed over to police.
Funding for the gun buybacks, as well as a separate gun bounty program, comes from the Delores Barr Weaver Fund and the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
