JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Justice Coalition on Friday announced a $10,000 award information for information leading to an arrest in a double killing in June.
The announcement was made at the Ortega Bluff home on the Westside where the bodies of 33-year-old John Ragin Jr. and 36-year-old Eric Stubbs were found.
Relatives of the victims stood outside the home Friday holding flyers and wearing T-shirts with the victims' photos on them and supporting each other as the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and the state attorney's office pleaded for help alongside them.
The two men, who were stepbrothers, were both multiple times June 29 in the living room of the home Ragin shared with a roommate.
Police said the bodies were found by a young relative of one of the victims who got a call around midnight to come to the home to check on him.
Police said there was no sign of forced entry, and they do not think it was a murder-suicide.
Now with the reward money, authorities are hoping someone will come forward.
"It's not going to end it, but just help us find the person that done this here," said Garrett Stubbs, whose son and stepson were killed. "That's what we're looking for. They should be put up somewhere."
Stubbs said this has been harder than he could have ever imagined.
"It's rough. It is," he said. "Two or three times a week I go to the cemetery, trying to find answers to this."
Relatives said both men left behind grieving children. Eric Stubbs was a sergeant first class in the Army. He had a son and most recently worked with the U.S. Postal Service. Ragin had three children and worked different temporary jobs.
Both were loved by their friends and family.
"We had to go through grief with therapists. That's ongoing," said Sheresa Stubbs, Eric's sister.
Channel 4 crime analyst Ken Jefferson said it's important for the Ortega Bluff neighborhood to come together in the wake of the killings.
"Someone may have seen something or heard something that they might have thought, 'Well, that's not much to go on. I won't call,'" Jefferson said. "But I implore those persons, if you have that sort of information, as minute as it may be, call police and give it to them."
What's even harder is the family is from Georgia. They said Ragin's mother couldn't be there Friday because she has cancer.
They're just asking for the community's help.
"They just may be too scared to open up, but they need to come out with it and let someone know," Sheresa Stubbs said.
