K-9 bites Oviedo police officer during search for burglars

2 men steal cigarettes, cash from Medallion Convenience store

OVIEDO, Fla. – A police officer was accidentally bitten by a K-9 Friday morning during a search for two burglars.

According to Oviedo police, two men broke into the Medallion Convenience store at 1020 W. Mitchell Hammock Road around 2 a.m.

Once inside, the culprits loaded a trash can with cartons of cigarettes and smashed two cash registers, police said.

Surveillance cameras captured the men leaving the area in a white van.

An alarm inside the store alerted police to the burglary.

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office assisted Oviedo police in the search for the culprits.

Police said a sheriff's K-9 became startled during a search of the store and bit an Oviedo police officer on the leg.

The officer's injury was minor, and he was treated at the scene.
