LAKE CITY, Fla. - Police say suspects accused of trespassing and breaking into a Lake City home Tuesday night were arrested.
Officers with the Lake City Police Department were dispatched at 10:42 p.m. Tuesday to 627 Northeast Washington Street in reference to a burglary in progress.
Officers processing the scene discovered that the front door had been kicked in, the back sliding?glass doors were shattered and the house was ransacked.
After arriving at the scene police said the suspects fled from the scene, but officers said they were able to catch and detain Toshua Ross, who said that the other two suspects were his brother, Marcus Ross, and Alexander Young, also known as "Gucci."
A K-9 was able to find Marcus Ross on Northwest Leon Street, where police said he was detained.
Investigators said Marcus and Toshua were home when Young approached them regarding breaking into what they believed to be an unoccupied home.
According to witness and suspect interviews, Young led the group to the home where he then kicked the door in.
According to statements, as Young began to ransack the house, Marcus and Toshua changed their mind and left the home. Police said they saw police cars approaching and fled.
"This is a fine example of how prompt reporting of suspicious or criminal activity by ordinary citizens can help us respond to, and apprehend, criminals in our community," said LCPD Chief Argatha Gilmore. "In this case, we were able to respond quickly thanks to information provided to our communications center. As a result, two suspects are in jail and a warrant is being processed for the third. We can't stress enough the importance of picking up the phone. If you see something, say something."
Police said Toshua and Marcus Ross were both arrested and charged respectively with burglary to a dwelling and trespassing. A warrant affidavit has been filed for Alexander Young on charges of burglary to a dwelling, felony criminal mischief, and resisting arrest without violence.
