JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It's getting down to the wire: There's not much time left for shoppers to scratch those 'need to get Christmas gifts' off their list.
Several stores that extended their hours for the holidays began closing their doors Monday evening.
More than 500 Toys R Us stores nationwide closed at 10:00 p.m. after being open for 88 hours straight. Channel 4 was in the parking lot all evening and the parking lot wasn't empty once.
Customers like Johnny Bride took full advantage of the extended hours.
"I've been to St. Augustine, been to the Avenues, St. Johns Town Center, so I've been everywhere," said Bride.
Taking last-minute shopping to the extreme, Bride had been shopping since 7:00 Monday morning. Even after the 12-plus hours in the stores, he said he'll do it again next year.
"Actually, you know I thought it was going to be a lot easier this year," said Bride. "Everybody you know is doing their shopping early. This has just been a breeze for me. In and out. In and out."
Bride is not alone. According to Consumer Reports, 17-million Americans planned to shop on Christmas Eve.
"It's going to sound really crazy, but I figured I could avoid the rush and everybody had already gotten their shopping out of the way," said last-minute shopper Alexis Brown. "I was wrong."
Shoppers around the Town Center said it wasn't so much the lines and crowds inside the store, more so the crowds around town.
"I will definitely shop in November instead of December," said Brown. "Please do not come out here in this traffic. Don't do it, it's not worth it."
A lot of shoppers said they're actually waiting for post-Christmas deals to some of their shopping for presents.
