Lawmakers hear from Jacksonville residents about gambling

Senate Gaming Committee concluding series of public hearings statewide

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Senate Gaming Committee will be in Jacksonville Friday afternoon to wrap up a series of statewide public hearings about gambling issues.

Committee members were in Pensacola Thursday and heard mostly opposition to expanding gambling. The committee is looking for input on potential changes to the state's gambling rules.

Committee members offered little insight into where they were heading on the issue, mostly saying they were "listening and learning." Other hearings were held in Coconut Creek and Lakeland.

Friday's hearing is at 2 p.m. at Florida State College at Jacksonville's Advanced Technology Center in downtown Jacksonville.
