Local group changing perception of the Northside

'Northside Love' showcases positive people in area

JACKSONVILLE, Fl. – What do you think of when you think of the Northside? One group says there are not enough positive images out there and they want to change that.

"We hope to dispel some of the myths of the Northside and we are doing this by showcasing the positive events and people in our growing community," said Leandrew Mills of "Northside Love."

The "Love" in Northside Love stands for Lifting Our Various Enterprises.

"We want to showcase local entrepreneurs, business owners and entertainers through a series of events we are scheduling," said Mills.

Musical performances by groups including The Groove Coalition (pictured above) are planned at the Northside Arts Market.

"We will have train ride for the kids, a lot of local artists, vendors, handmade crafts and more," said Angie Dixon, who works with Northside Love.

Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown has stopped by these community events hoping to break down the walls of all communities throughout Jacksonville.

If you want to go to the Love and Arts Vendor Market, the next one is Sunday October 27, at Lonnie Miller Park. There will be food trucks, live entertainment and even free zumba lessons.

The event runs from 2 to  6 p.m. and it's free.
