MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation vehicle burglarized

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are trying to identify a man they said burglarized a vehicle owned by the MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation and who is a person of interest in several other similar burglaries.

Officers said a vehicle was damaged and the stereo was stolen about 5:30 a.m. Sunday at the foundation in the 1000 block of West Sixth Street.

Police said the burglar appears to be a black man wearing a black shirt, blue jean shorts, white shoes, a black hat, a white glove on his left hand, a black glove on his right hand, and a white shirt covering his face [Click here to view surveillance video]. He has also been seen carrying a sledgehammer in this instance and in other cases, police said.

They said there have been numerous burglaries to cars reported in close proximity to the foundation, and all have the similar characteristics of this crime, including damage to windows and locks that may have been done with a sledgehammer.

Investigators said they're exploring the possibility that the burglar may live in the area.
