Man, 20, convicted in double attempted murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 20-year-old Jacksonville man was convicted Thursday evening on two counts of attempted first-degree felony murder, two counts of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of attempted armed robbery, and one count of carrying a concealed firearm.

In September 2011, Dalvin Denson set up a drug deal with two boys. When they showed up with the marijuana, Denson refused to provide the cash for the drugs.

When the two victims walked away, Denson followed the boys. He then pulled a gun on the victims and ordered them to give him the marijuana.

When they did not comply, Denson shot one victim in the chest and the other in the leg. Both have recovered from their injuries.

"The victims in the case were doing something illegal, and they are being prosecuted for the crime they committed. However, their bad act does not give this defendant the right to take their lives, and the jury saw that," said Assistant State Attorney David Thompson.

Denson faces minimum mandatory 50 years to life in prison. He will be sentenced the week of Nov. 13.
