ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 27-year-old St. Johns County man was arrested Wednesday evening on six counts of grand theft of a firearm and grand theft.

The investigation began Tuesday afternoon when a relative of Christopher Chambliss discovered a burglary to their home that is on the same property as Chambliss, deputies said.

They said reported stolen were two flat screen TVs, a gaming system, along with numerous games and DVDs, and numerous firearms.

Deputies said Chambliss, who at first denied any involvement when questioned by detectives, confessed to the victims that he staged the burglary in an effort to steal and pawn the guns.

Chambliss drove the victim around and collected some of the items that were disposed of in a nearby wooded area, deputies said. They said he then told detectives that he threw six to seven guns into a ditch off Allen Nease Road.

A member of the Sheriff's Office dive team responded and found 13 guns in the ditch that were returned to the victims.

Chambliss was booked into the St. Johns County jail with bail set at $3,500.

Deputies said their investigation is continuing.
