JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 40-year-old Jacksonville man was convicted Tuesday of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl.
Donnie Jones was found guilty of lewd and lascivious molestation. He was arrested in 2008 after a mother alerted police that Jones had molested her child.
Evidence showed Jones fondled the girl in 2006. The abuse was not discovered until 2008, when the victim told her mother Jones inappropriately touched her.
"This young victim was brave enough to face her abuser in court. Thanks to her testimony, this defendant will not be able to hurt another child," said Assistant State Attorney Joel Cooper.
Jones faces life in prison. He will be sentenced the week of Dec. 3.
