Man buying video games through Craigslist ad robbed

PALM COAST, Fla. – Flagler County deputies are investigating a robbery Thursday night of a St. Augustine man that occurred in the parking lot of a Palm Coast shopping center.

The victim, 28-year-old Scott Seltzer, told deputies that around 10:15 p.m. he was in the parking lot of the Staples Plaza when he was struck on the head and robbed. The thieves took his car keys, cellphone and several hundred dollars cash after striking him with what appeared to be clubs, according to the victim.

Seltzer was able to give deputies a description of two vehicles involved in the robbery. He said both vehicles fled the parking lot and appeared to be headed toward Interstate 95.

Seltzer told deputies that he was at the parking lot to meet a man who had sold him several video games earlier in the week at a McDonald's restaurant in Ormond Beach. He said he didn't know the man's name and met him after responding to an ad on Craigslist.

Seltzer said the man contacted him about 5 p.m. Thursday to ask if he was interested in purchasing more games, but this time his brother was selling them. The victim arranged to meet the man's brother at the McDonald's on Old Kings Road in Palm Coast at 9:15 p.m., but the brother then changed the location to the Staples parking lot.

The victim told deputies when he arrived, he parked a few spaces away from the man's vehicle. Seltzer said there was a woman inside the man's vehicle. He said while he was talking to the couple, two other people, another man and woman, exited a nearby vehicle with masks on their faces and came up behind him, taking his wallet, phone and cash.

Seltzer said the woman then struck him in the head with what he thought was a metal pipe.

Detectives said they're still talking with witnesses.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS (8477).
