JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 46-year-old Jacksonville man was convicted Thursday afternoon for robbing a Westside hotel in September 2011.

Johnny Walthour and co-defendant LaTroy Montgomery held up the Hospitality Inn on 103rd Street. The two men were wearing masks and were armed with handguns when they walked into the hotel.

Walthour forced the hotel's security guard to the floor and then took money from the clerk. Walthour and Montgomery then fled the area.

Walthour was later arrested on a violation of probation for a 1996 robbery conviction. The hotel armed robbery happened within three years of Walthour being released from prison on the 1996 charge.

"Due to the defendant's criminal history, he now faces a mandatory life in prison sentence," said Assistant State Attorney Brittany Mauerberger.

Montgomery's armed robbery trial is pending. Walthour will be sentenced the week of Feb. 19.
