Man convicted of woman's murder in 2004

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Duval County jury has convicted Kim Jackson of first-degree murder in the 2004 death of Debra Pearce.

Prosecutors say Jackson, 43, slashed 49-year-old Pearce's throat and stabbed the her in the chest at her Bennington Drive home. The crime went unsolved until 2007 when a DNA test on evidence matched Jackson.

The jury will return next Friday for the death penalty phase, where they will recommend if Jackson should be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole.

The final sentencing decision will be made by Judge James Daniel.
