Police said the man was shot at least once in the torso while he was in the street, and he was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center. His identity was not immediately released, though he was said to be in his early 20s.
Police said there were no immediate suspects. They said a silver Buick was seen fleeing the area shortly after the gunshots, but they do not know if that vehicle was involved in the shooting.
"We're not characterizing it as a drive-by at this time. All we can say is that there was a vehicle seen fleeing the scene afterwards, but no one saw anyone shoot from that vehicle," Sgt. Michael Paul said.
Police said they were interviewing neighbors to find out more information.
