Man dead in Callahan house fire

Passerby saw flames, called 911

CALLAHAN, Fla. – A man was found dead Wednesday morning after Nassau County firefighters put out a fire in a mobile home just north of Callahan.

Around 6:30 a.m. a passerby saw flames shooting from a mobile home on 450516 Old Dixie Highway, near Quail Road, and called 911, according to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office.

Several fire units arrived to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the home. After fire crews doused the fire, they found the man's body inside.

There were no other occupants in the home at the time of the fire.

The State Fire Marshal's office has been called to determine the cause.
