JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 25-year-old man convicted earlier this month of second-degree murder in a retrial in the killing of an 18-year-old co-worker in 2006 was sentenced Thursday to life in prison.

Kyle Bass was previously convicted of murder in 2007 in the shooting death of Martaze DaShane Harris.

The two worked together at La Salsa Mexican restaurant in Regency, and the shooting happened inside the restaurant.

The motive was never clear.

The original conviction was overturned in 2009 by an appeals court due to a technicality in a jury instruction. The retrial took just over two days.

La Salsa subsequently closed. Harris' mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the owner.
