Man identified in Middleburg Walgreens armed robbery

72-year-old Clay County resident admitted to hospital after ingesting pills

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – Deputies have identified and Baker Acted the man who was wanted Monday's armed robbery at the Walgreens in Middleburg.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office said the armed robber taken into custody was a 72-year-old Clay County resident.

Deputies did not name him Tuesday but said his identity will become public record when the case is closed by an arrest or otherwise.

A BB gun used in the robbery was recovered at the man's home, along with the clothes he was wearing during the robbery, deputies said.

The man was taken to Orange Park Medical Center and admitted due to his ingestion of an unknown amount of Lortab pills, according to CCSO.

The CCSO said the investigation continues into the armed robbery and charges are pending.
