ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – An Alachua County man has died after he was hit by a car on Southeast Hawthorne Road on Friday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 57-year-old George McMurrain was attempting to cross Southeast Hawthorne Road near Southeast 43rd Street in Gainesville, using a motorized wheelchair, when he was struck by a vehicle.

The FHP said 18-year-old Miguel Maldonado-Rivera was driving east on Hawthorne in a 2002 Ford Ranger when he hit McMurrain.
The FHP said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
