JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man was sentenced Thursday afternoon to 23 years in prison for shooting his nephew at a New Year's Day birthday party.
Leephor Spivey was sentenced to 23 years on one count of attempted manslaughter with a weapon. He also received 23 years, with a three-year minimum-mandatory, on a possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charge. The sentences run concurrently.

The 2012 shooting stemmed from an argument Spivey had with his nephew, Bryan Williams, at a family birthday celebration. Williams was shot three times and spent two months in the hospital due to his injuries.
Spivey is a habitual felony offender. He has felony convictions for DUI and aggravated assault.
