Man sentenced to life in prison for wife's murder

Michael Morris, 68, sentenced Wednesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville Beach man was sentenced Wednesday to a minimum of life in prison for the first-degree murder of his wife.

According to officials, in March 2012, Michael Wolfe Morris, 68, and his wife, Barbara Morris, 55, got into an argument -- spurred by the wife throwing the man's camera in the toilet after the couple had been drinking.

Barbara Morris ran outside to get away from Michael Morris, but he dragged her back inside the home and beat her, officials said.

Michael Morris then pulled out his gun after being unable to silence Barbara Morris' screams for help and shot her several times in the head and upper body, according to reports.

A Jacksonville Beach officer who leaved nearby heard the woman's screams for help and then the gunshot. The officer said Michael Morris came outside and told him he "could not take it anymore" and shot his wife.

Barbara Morris died at the scene.
