ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - A man who allegedly stole items from the inside of a St. Johns County motel room as a 79-year-old woman was sleeping inside is being sought by deputies.

The incident happened between Sunday night and Monday morning at the Days Inn in the 2500 block of State Road 16.

A South Florida couple rented a room at the motel overnight. Sometime during the night, an 85-year old man left the room and did not fully secure the door, deputies said.

The robber entered the room while the 79-year-old woman slept, stealing her purse and laptop, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the robber, described as a black man, was seen getting into what appeared to be a blue Ford Expedition with an unknown amount of people inside.

Anyone with information regarding the motel robbery is asked to call Detective Samantha English at the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office at 904-209-3986. Deputies said callers can remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward by calling CrimeStoppers of N.E. Florida at 888-277-TIPS (8477).
