Mayor's office finds extra $1M available

Money to be used for park, lawn maintenance

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The mayor's office has found more money it didn't know it had and is working on new ways to spend it.

During a meeting of the mayor budget review committee Monday, members learned of an extra $1 million available from city grants never distributed.

The mayor's staff said that money will now be funneled back into park maintenance and to cutting grass along city roadways. Both of those were cut during last year's budget talks.

The committee also approved plans to inventory all of Jacksonville vacant city buildings. Last week, there was a push to use those sites rather than build new complexes for city offices.
