Mayport welcomes USS Sanuel B. Roberts home

Hundreds of sailors return from 6-month deployment

MAYPORT, Fla. – More than 200 sailors returned home to their families Wednesday morning after a six-month deployment to the Central Mediterranean ends with an emotional homecoming.

Families of the sailors aboard the USS Samuel B. Roberts lined up and waited early Wednesday morning at Mayport for their loved ones to return from deployment.

One 6-year-old was wearing a shirt saying: "Move out of my way ... I'm here to see my daddy."

The ship deployed with HSM-46 Detachment 9 to the U.S. 6th Fleet Area of Responsibility in April.  Their mission included a record number of drone missions.

Naval Station Mayport is home to more than 5,500 sailors and more than 70 tenant commands including 16 naval ships, four helicopter squadrons and U.S. Fourth Fleet.
