Miami-bound plane diverted to JIA

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – American Airlines Flight 3551 headed from Norfolk, Va., to Miami was diverted to Jacksonville International Airport before 8 a.m. Tuesday after people on board reported smelling electrical fumes.

The Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft that seats 50 passengers took off from Norfolk at 6:15 a.m.  An alert went out and airport and Jacksonville-Fire Rescue responded as a precaution, but the plane landed safely in Jacksonville at 7:53 a.m.

According to FlightAware.com, it was still on the ground in Jacksonville at 11:45 a.m. The airline says it was working to get the passengers to their final destination.
