New app connects commuters to Mayport ferry

JaxFerry app provides up-to-the-minute information

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – JaxFerry, a free new mobile application now available for Apple and Android devices, provides up-to-the-minute information about the St. Johns River Ferry to area commuters.

The app was developed by the city of Jacksonville's Information Technologies Division in partnership with the St. Johns River Ferry Commission.

"Technology provides a great opportunity to improve the quality of service for Jacksonville residents," said Mayor Alvin Brown. "This mobile application builds upon the momentum we've started with JaxReady and JaxHapps, connecting people to what's going on across our city."

JaxFerry allows commuters to track ferry arrival and departure times in real-time so that they can plan their commute. The app also provides current location and heading information, upcoming departure times and the travel time remaining, driving directions to both ports, a schedule, fares and alerts and special announcements about service interruptions and delays.

"In order to provide more real-time information about the ferry to our existing and prospective riders, JaxFerry is the first of several tools to be implemented by the St. Johns River Ferry Commission, all of which were designed to help preserve the continued operation of the ferry," said councilman John Crescimbeni, chairman of the commission. "Just as the ferry connects A1A, this phone app connects the users of the A1A highway with valuable and up-to-date data about the ferry."
